Hurt Locker Makers Target Record Breaking 24,583 BitTorrent Users

After being honored with an Oscar for best motion picture last year, the makers of The Hurt Locker have now also secured the award for the biggest file-sharing lawsuit the world has ever witnessed. By targeting at least 24,583 alleged BitTorrent users, Voltage Pictures hopes to recoup millions of dollars in settlements to compensate the studio for piracy-related losses.

Hurt Locker Lawsuit Doesn’t Affect BitTorrent Downloads

Despite a pending lawsuit against 5,000 Hurt Locker downloaders and the promises from its makers to sue even more, the film is still being downloaded by thousands of people every day. Interestingly, the makers do not seem to be sending takedown notices to torrent sites, most likely because that would ruin their business plan.

Hurt Locker BitTorrent Targets Get Offers of Representation

Thousands of individuals receiving settlement offers from US lawyers following allegations that they shared movies such as Hurt Locker are being offered other opportunities to deal with the problem. Today the EFF launched its ‘Subpoena Defense List’ which shows lawyers across the States prepared to defend letter recipients. Another company is even suggesting it can reduce settlement amounts.

IP-Addresses of First Hurt Locker Victims Revealed

Approximately 700 IP-addresses of BitTorrent users who allegedly shared a copy of ‘The Hurt locker’ have been submitted to the Washington D.C. District Court. The public court records show that nearly all IPs in the group were tracked from the last week of April until the first week of May.
