Is utorrent and mininova illegal?
Hi, im just wondering if using either of these progams is illegal. Tell the truth, please [And no, I havent used them, but someone suggested to me to use them xD]
Can you get arrested for using it?
I havent used it yet, but I just want to know who’s more likely to get arrested: Me or the guy who put the stuff up in the first place. I have a deathly fear of jail.
I always buy my songs and movies- so no, I would never download either one of those. I dont think I’ll use it, though.

the programs themselves are not illegal. downloading illegal content is illegal.

No, I don’t think so. I think I used Utorrent once a year ago. Still here :/

those programs itself is not illegal, because all it is doing is basically sharing what the user has.
but distributing licenced stuff through through anything is illegal, including those utorrent, etc.

Peer to Peer programs ARE not illegal, sharing files that are copyrighted is illegal.

Well this is pretty complicated. Yes technically the program itself is not illegal, but using it to download software illegally is illegal. Most of the programs you download from site like mininova have cracks in them (to activate them). However, how I look at it is like this- Illegal downloading is like jaywalking, you won’t get stopped unless you really piss someone off.

they can be illegal if you download loads of songs or movies and do not buy them in the shop because you wont be helping the artist or directer or the creator of the content you are downloading. so what you are doing is actually theft.

Torrent use is no illegal, but P2P (Limewire, Kazaa…..) are. I remember like in ’08 i was looking on rogers.com site comparing their internet speeds and for their fastest speed it mentioned it “downloads torrents at a fast rate”. and even showed a bit torrent icon.

It’s WHAT you download. For instance it is legal to download non-copyrighted videos and TV shows but not movies. Mininova is not illegal in itself but much of the content it has is. uTorrent is just a program used to download torrents so it’s not illegal. That would be like saying cars are illegal because some people use them to transport drugs.
