Lost my opened download!?

I downloaded my coursework from my e-mail yesterday, but instead of “saving as,” I clicked open. Did lots and lots of work on it, and saved it, and I’ve come back to my computer today and I can’t find it anywhere! I’ve looked through my documents, and it’s not in the “recently opened” bit on word, I’ve tried searching my computer for it, and I can’t find it anywhere! But it must be on here somewhere as I saved it…. any help would be much appreciated!

I know what happened, but it is gone.
When you opened, yes, you may have clicked Control + S to save it, but it was downloaded as a temporary file. You only needed it then, now that you closed it your computer doesn’t think you need it anymore and got rid of it. In the future always do save as!

try creating a new document type something on it and saving it the same way then you will know the true location of where the file is going and maybe you will see your other one.

Unfortunately, it’s probably gone. When you open an email, you create a temporary copy. You then edited that temporary copy. If you never saved it anywhere else, once the temporary was no longer needed, it was probably deleted.

There’s a chance there’s a copy somewhere. Search for all files that have the extension your coursework had (.doc or .txt or whatever) and look for one in an unusual place that was last modified that day.

Check the original attachment in the email and see if anything saved there. Highly doubtful, but when you’re looking for straws to clutch at..
